Jill Wertheim is a research
associate contributing to AAAS Project 2061’s development of curriculum and assessment
resources aligned to K–12 science learning goals. She came to Project 2061 from
the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she was a doctoral student, teaching
assistant, and instructor in the Department of Geological Sciences, and a research assistant
for the Paleobiology Database at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis
(NCEAS). In a previous position, Wertheim was assistant curator at the Museum of Science,
Boston. She was also a program developer for the museum’s Earth Science Institute
for public school teachers. Her K–12 science education experience includes serving
as a mentor and presenter for a variety of science outreach
programs. Wertheim has published and presented her research in the fields of geology
and vertebrate paleontology.
Wertheim holds a Ph.D. in geological
sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.A. in geology and
music performance from Middlebury College.
